We are pleased to announce a Research Fellow/Assistant position at Queen's University Belfast.

As part of the £4million cross-border Tellus Border project (www.tellusborder.eu), funded by the INTERREG IVa Development Programme of the European Regional Development Fund, a Research Fellow/Assistant position is available from September 2012 for 12 months at Queen’s University Belfast. The Tellus Border project is part funded by the Department of the Environment (Northern Ireland) and the Republic of Ireland Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and led by the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland (GSNI) in partnership with Geological Survey of Ireland (GSI), Queen’s University Belfast and Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT). The project is an extension of the award-winning Tellus Project in Northern Ireland. Continuing the analysis of the Tellus data, the Border project will undertake innovative research, particularly in the scientific assessment and management of wetlands, soil-carbon and ground pollution. The project will also integrate the geoscience information mapped on both sides of the border and improve cross-border collaboration in the management of earth resources and the environment.

The objectives of this post are to design and undertake a programme of research within the context of the Tellus Border Project that defines a methodology for delineating and monitoring groundwater pollution plumes using airborne geophysical means, and to apply this methodology to airborne geophysical data newly acquired in the Northern region of Ireland the project. The project is carried out in close collaboration with research colleagues at the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland, the Geological Survey of Ireland and the British Geological Survey.

Closing Date for Applications is Friday, 7th September 2012 and full details of the post are available here
